Jim is my best friend and sweetheart. He is always so good to me and all of my "crazy" family. You're right he has spent years behind the camera at all of the family events. (We are working at getting those hours of video so everyone can enjoy them) Jim has also spent years helping clean up after family parties, ward parties, Stake functions etc. He is so very aware of and ready to help out. He is truly a gentleman. He was always particularly good with my little Grandma's. He has been known as the "Game Chairman", "Muscle Beach", and has kept everyone entertained. When we were first dating, Grandma asked if he would come across town every day to feed our pet goat while we went on vacation. (I thought I'd die) He did it. I knew I'd found a keeper! I could go on and on. Love you Jim- Tomi
When I think of Jim I think of one of the most kind people I have ever met. I also think Jim has a very addicting laugh. He makes me want to laugh too. I think one of my favorite memories is being on the bus to the Dude Ranch and Jim making sure we all watched Jeremiah Johnson. Sorry Jim, but BORING! It's still a funny memory though because he just loved it. Also whenever I have a church related question I think...hmmmm I wish my uncle were around he could probably answer that for me. Jim you're a wonderful person and I thank you for being such a great uncle.
It was very hard for me when Jim married Tomi. I was the stud of the family(older and bigger than Randy and Cory), and now I had to take second fiddle to an older and I assumed more studly guy than I. My fears were quickly diminished on the beaches in Hawaii. When Cory and I dominated Jim and Randy in Football I knew I had little to worry about. I have always enjoyed Jim and his humor. Sometimes Randy and I can be a little brutal, but Jim always takes it in stride. Jim has been more like a big brother to me rather than a brother-in-law. My fondest memory other than the football games on the beach, was Jim's halloween costume as "Pee Wee Herman", an easy costume for him because he didn't really have to change much from his every day attire. Jim has been a great Jazz ticket holder partner, great at always being asked to give prayers at family activities, great at keeping activites fun and lively(but I never see the pictures). The only thing that I can say negative about Jim is the fact that he gets me in trouble all the time because he is so nice and helpful that he makes me look like a lazy bum. Another great addition to the "Peck" clan by on of the Peck Kids.
Jim has always been a great example to me. He's a great listener, is very sincere and has a way of making you feel important when he's talking to you! I'll never forget Jim being so upset about his metabolism slowing down. No offense to Shane and Randy but when you have two brutal uncles, it's nice to have Jim around to soften the blows :)
When I was in high school I dated a boy whos dad works with Jim. When they found out he was my uncle they went on and on about how wonderful he is. I think that anyone who knows Jim could do the same. He is so nice, fun, happy, spiritual, loving, and the list goes on and on.
One of my first memories of Jim is that every time he would see me ( I was single) he would say " I feel so guilty, I need to line you up with a friend". Well Jim, no thanks to you I did get married, and did it all on my own. I love Jim's dry sense of humor - he can say it how it is without sounding too harsh. I'll always remember the straw hat we looked for all over Puerto Rico ( while cruising) that Jim wanted to buy, but it had to be just the right one - you know Jim - he has a black belt in finding just the right item. Finally he made a purchase. Then don't you know, just as we rounded the bend for the ship a gust of wind came up and there went Jim's hat - right off of his head and into the ocean. Dave and I laughed so hard. Sorry Jim.
Dave has also always enjoyed Jim's company. (Dave doesn't know how to make comments on here so I will speak for him). Pretty much our family is the best, and it is all because we have so many wonderful people in it -- Jim being one of them. We love ya Jim!!!
Jim is the #1 family photographer and I am the #1 family hater of photos. We have gone the rounds on numerous occassions! Aside from my hostility towards his camera, what's not to love about Jim? He is a true gentleman in every sense of the word. He is ALWAYS the first to volunteer help in any situation, the first to offer you his seat, hold doors, etc. I could go on and on. He has a fabulous sense of humor. I love when the family gets together because all we do is laugh. When I think of Jim I can't help but think of his exactness in living gospel principles. There is no gray area for Jim, he just always does what he knows is right. What an example!
Well Jim, You've put up pretty well with us. I'm sure you were a little worried when you were marrying into the family--but you've been a good influence on us all and especially on my family. The "Daddy Jim" nickname was well earned. We love you.
I could write a novel about Jim. He's always the one that gets everyone involved. I remeber playing basketball at grandma's, I was always on Jim's team and will always remember his words of wisdom, "Aim!". Hot box is always a blast too. My most recent favorite memory of Jim is watching him play with his grandkids. They were wearing him out so he laid down on the grass, no sooner had he done this than Emily shouted, "Jump on him" Anna is very obedient! What a good grandpa! My fondest memory of Jim is that he baptised me. I'm so grateful for the example he has been to our family. We love you! "That is all you need to know"
I hadn't read any of these eulogies for me when I went to the 24th of July party yesterday, or I would have been nicer to everyone. Thanks for the kind words and countless kind acts over the years. I love being a small part of this great family. - Jim
