Family Spotlight

So Kelsey asked if I (Nicole) would help her out with the blog. I kind of fell behind at helping. I racked my brain trying to come up with something fun and then I realized we should do family spotlights once a week. Instead of me telling about that person I want all of you to tell us your favorite memory, thought, story, etc. about that person. We will just do the first 3 generations. I don't think the great grand kids would have much to say. But if they do-include it. I will draw the names from a hat. The first person I chose is drum roll.....RANDY. I'm sure he'll love the comments.
(Cassie, will you make sure he reads this)

Well I have lots of memory's about my dad! I'll tell you a funny one when we went to Boomers andmy dad was tipping his chair. My mom told my dad to stop because he was going to tip over and hurt himself. When he didn't listen and fell right over a broke the chair. And when he fell his body just rolled. He got up and said " Well, I broke a chair!". I thought that was funny! But I also want my dad to know how much I love him. And that I couldn't ask more out of my dad! I love you dad!

Good idea Nicole! Well One thing about Randy that everyone knows is his "loving" sarcasm. When Mike first met Randy he was a little intimidated by him. Then he realized that Randy is extremely sarcastic and agreed with me on the fact that Randy is one of the nicest people we know.

Not to mention he's got killer meat!

I have lots of memories where Randy is teasing me about my ugly shoes or asking me if my hair is done (when it is), teasing me about boys, and so much more. But one of my favorite serious memories is when I called off my engagement from the first Matt (the lame Matt). We were all riding in the bus to Cody (happy, happy, joy, joy) and Randy came to the back of the bus and asked how I was doing. He listened and then gave me some advice. He reminded me that compared to all of the other situations I would go through in life that, that moment would soon be over and I would have bigger fish to fry and a better guy waiting. Sorry, one last thing was when Randy took Nicole, Alyson and I to "A River Run's Through It" Thanksgiving day. As we left he looked at us girls and said, "Was it our blonde hair or what, because that movie went way over my head." The fact is the movie was just to deep for all of our simple minds. Love Ya Randy!

One of my favorite memories of Randy is when I was in college and had to have my tonsils out. I wasn't doing so great and Randy who was about 12 years old at the time said he would stay home and take care of me. Mom thought he was just trying to get out of school but he was serious. He did take care of me -- but what was funny is that he made me spicy ravioli for lunch. But because he had tried so hard I clinched my throat and let the ravioli slide down. Randy has always been the first to call me when I had a baby or any other surgery. He was especially good to me during my past heart surgery to call me sometimes twice a day and come visit me all the way from Cedar City. So, something that I have known for many, many years is that down deep inside - Randy is one of the most compassionate people I know - and I just love the big guy!

Love, Your Big Sister

I would miss the bus weekly when I was in Jr High and when Randy would come drop Chelsea off he would take me to school. He got me out of a lot of yelling from my mom (who hates to drive). Thanks Randy for never getting mad for having to take me to school. It wasn't even on your way to work!

I have lots of great Lake Powell memories of Randy when we used to get the house boat and go every year...raft wars, campfires, learning to water ski...those trips were the best!!

I have lots of memories with Randy but I would have to say one of my favorite things about Randy is that he loves to just hang out and talk. On every vacation we've been on he's always good for conversation and a laugh. A fun memory I have of Randy was when my friend and I went down to the ranch for a weekend. We went into town for pizza one night. At the time Randy was single and I can remember him and another guy (Brad??)looking at this super skinny lady in Wranglers and telling me and my friend that those were "real" levis. Fun times. Last-I can remember entering Mr. Brown's class in ninth grade at Bonneville Jr. High and as the year went on I told him that I was Randy Peck's niece and I can remember him saying "Oh boy, we've got a long year ahead of us." I loved going to the same schools as my Mom and all of my aunts and uncles. Go Colts! Randy you're a great guy,a hardworker, and a big loveable teddy bear. Thanks for the memories.

I've always been envious of Randy's good looks and massive forearms. I have fond memories of gathering salted/roasted peanuts growing on sage bushes down at Lake Powell. Recently, I've enjoyed sharing quiet mornings with him at breakfast in Mexico and Cody when we seemed to be the only two people awake. He tells it how it is with an honesty that's both humble and bold. What a great uncle and friend.

I love how Randy always has one arm on top of his head when he's talking. Actually, ever since I was little I have always loved that Randy and I have shared the same birthday. I can remember coming home from Central America and feeling a little disoriented, but the second I would see Randy at a family party--we had a connection. I always felt like the favorite niece because Randy always remembered when my birthday was!

After Randy ran the river he did some "big fat frog" thing for us that he entertained the guests with. I can't remember exactly other than his head was upside down and he was hilarious.
Randy is one that will tell it like it is and also has the softest heart of anyone I know. Love you. TJ

I remember one particular 24th of July water fight. I don't know how old I was, probably 7 or 8. Randy had the hose on the road over by the tennis court. For some reason I thought I could take it from him. I got soaked through, I think Randy got pretty wet as well, but I never got control of the hose. It was so much fun.
I'm also putting in a request to see the "big fat frog". I've heard my mom and Tomi talk about it and they can hardly breathe by the time they are through because they are laughing so hard. I must be entertaining.
I love you Randy!

I remember Randy and Papa were talking about cats one time and Randy said the best way to kill a cat is to bury it's body in the ground with only it's head sticking up and then run over it with a lawn mower. Sick!! But maybe I'll hire you as a hit man for my 17 year old cat that won't die! I love your sense of humor Randy! I must admit, at first I never know if you're serious or joking, but by the end of the conversation I do. Thanks for being such a fun, easy going uncle!!

I'm glad I'm too young to remember the whole frog routine, but I sure would love to see it! One thing that has always stood out in my mind about Randy is his incredible handiman abilities (his brother has none.) He bought Nanny's house and did a total remodel practically on his own! Time and again I have marveled at the things he is able to do and make. Also, I love his ability to make me and everybody else laugh--wish I was young enough to remember any specifics!

One more thing, not only does Randy raise great steaks, he used to grill the best steaks I have ever eaten. Does he still?

Randy was always my little buddy. On every outing that the"big 6" went on the girls being so much older and mature each got the assignment of watching out for the little brothers. Randy was my charge. I remember several ski trips where that meant he had to sit on my lap in the back of the GTO or the other 2dr sedan all the way up the mountain. He kept me warm. Usually it was easy keeping track of him. It was the other 2 boys that were the naughties. Our first trip together I think we spent days in the swimming pool trying to teach Randy and Shane how to swim. I've always loved Randy. He always has a twinkle in his eye and something funny to say - but he is just a cuddly old bear. Love ya - Tomi
